Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to be exact, population 9,000, all of them farmers. My rally team isn’t here yet so I bummed a ride here from Fargo airport in the Subaru factory team RV, which I may have covertly crop dusted. Now I’ve got the rest of the day with no plans, no team, no idea where anything is, and only my feet as transport. What could go wrong?

I’ve heard rumor of a disc golf course nearby. I’ve never played disc golf, but what the hell. How hard can it be?

Step 1) Get Grain Belt, both Premium and Nordeast

Step 2) Get on one of the lakes. Any of the lakes. So many lakes.

Step 3) Catch Fish

Step 4) Find a way to become tall, blond, and blue-eyed so you fit in

Step 5) Drive west to the Moorhead Dairy Queen

Step 6) Go to The Hjemkomst Center

I believe to play disc golf you have to get tested for THC in your system. If you pass the drug test, they won’t let you play.

It’s a very nice town. Have swimming stuff? Go for a swim in the lakes! There’s a nice diner downtown. Um, yeah that’s about it really haha.

I was there 2 years ago about this week. Visiting family, rally just happened to be that weekend, I missed the rally.

First tip is to download the spectator guide. Also make sure you plan to get to the spectator points well in advance of when cars are supposed to go through. With Travis running it’s going to be a circus, lots of spectators. This means traffic and lots of walking from where you park to the spectator point itself. Beyond that, stay hydrated, bring bug spray (I’ve already killed a few bloodsuckers), and have fun!
